The universal DICOM 3 PACS
Technical Datasheet
The MDS Dx Multimodality™ offers a unique image management system for analysis, archiving and communication.
It is optimized for DICOM 3.0 standard network.
| Archiving | |
| Extremely efficient ORACLE™ image data base management system which uses SQL query language, fully ACR/NEMA, DICOM 3 and HL7 compatible |
| Communication | |
| Communication capability with UNIX and NT clients, LAN or WAN Teleradiology and Telemedicine solutions. | |
| Expandable and open systems architecture. |
|
Processing
Processing tools that improve |
|
|
|
|
| Interpretation | |
| Automatic display of all the images of the exam on the screen | |
| Report generation | |
| Comparison with previous exams and with exams of other modalities if the system is connected in multimodality | |
| Print function : on film or paper | |
| Universal system for image review, comparison, interpretation and reporting between all imaging modalities ( Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, Radiology etc.). |
|
Interpretation
Dx Multimodality™ provides the user with the tools necessary for interpreting the exam : |
|
| Display all function : automatic display and organization of all the images on the screen | |
| Simultaneous display of both still and dynamic images from different modalities | |
| Multiple modules of image processing which allow measurements in echography, cardiology, nuclear medicine etc. | |
| Image annotations | |
| Saving of processed images as new images | |
| Full screen images available only on a simple click | |
| Reporting either using pre-established templates (Applix ware) or using report generation | |
| Printing on film or paper printer of images or reports | |
|
Exam file stored in the patient's file
The database's structure conforms to the DICOM model (patient, study, series, image). |
This database is centralized on a file server to which multiple users can have instantaneous access. Long term storage can be carried out either on Optical Disk or on Jukebox (" cupboard " containing many optical disks)depending on the amount of data that has to be stored.
| Communication | |
| Teleradiology option : transfer of file, share of file with a telecursor session | |
| Telemedicine option : file transfer in real time using high rate networks, possibility to use video conference and video supervision |
Dx Multimodality™ offers a full network of connections to all imaging modalities, provides greater access to image data and extensive archive capacity through a powerful information system.
The communication between the two is handled by :
| Networks : Ethernet, ISDN, ATM | |
| Modem communication | |
| Media transfers |
This software is available both in an interactive mode under the UNIX shell, and in software library routines from C and C++ source code.
This feature allows the user to create clinical protocols tailored for individual use.
Dx family is based on a state-of-the-art line of RISC processor workstations using the UNIX™ operating system and hardware such as TCP/IP, NFS, ORACLE™ data base manager, X windows, MOTIF™ graphical user interface, C and C++ programming languages, Ethernet network and others...
The modalities are connected to the network by Ethernet TCP/IP DICOM 3.0, and Interfile protocols. Digital modalities (CT, MRI, DSA etc.) can be connected to this same network and images can be directly acquired and displayed on Dx stations.
The Dx Multimodality™ user-friendly interface allows easy access to all data and programs. Applications are launched through menus and icons, and the display settings may be easily adjusted according to individual preferences. The interface provides commands such as :

In the active image window the user has direct access to other utilities including size adjustment (" drag and drop "), color scale, text annotation, copy, saving images under various formats (GIF, TIFF etc.), DICOM 3.0 information (" pop-up menu ").
Dx Multimodality™ also includes a full package for report generation providing :
| Secretary terminal management software | |
| Voice recording included in the patient's file | |
| Word processing package within Dx Multimodality™ | |
| Key sentences for some modalities |
TheDx image processing development environment is object-oriented and created especially for the needs of medical image processing.
This software is available both in an interactive mode under the UNIX shell, and in software library routines from C and C++ source code.
This language allows the user to create clinical protocols tailored for individual use.
The MDS Dx Multimodality™ user interface and user's guide are available in English and in French.
