The MDS Dx Multimodality server™ is a PACS server that allows the processing of both Radiology and Cardiology images of all modalities (Nuclear Medicine, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, etc.). The system supports all networks of the HP range (Ethernet, ATM, etc.). It is optimized for the Market's standards (DICOM 3.0, HL7, Interfile, TIFF, etc.).
The system allows to :
| Collect images from all modalities inside the hospital | |
| Archive all the collected data | |
| Synchronize with the other hospital databases | |
| Have access to archived images from inside and outside the hospital |
Collecting images
| The images can be collected in various formats : DICOM 3.0, ACRNEMA, Interfile, TIFF, etc., and some proprietary formats. | |
| There is a matching process that assigns the data to the proper patient file. If the data cannot be properly assigned, it becomes " orphan " and should be resolved by the database administrator. This function is called the Orphan Pool Management. |
Archiving data
| The data model conforms to the DICOM standard (patient, study, series, image). | |
| The system manages transparently the transfer from On line media (Hard disk, RAID disk : expensive) to Near and Off line media (Optical disk, DAT band, Juke Box : cheaper). |
Synchronization inside the HIS
Existing HL7 services allow to :
| Process messages sent by other databases to update the contents of the PACS database (create patients and/or studies, demographic information update, merge, etc.) | |
| Send notification messages to other databases in order to keep them updated created objects (series of images created, etc.). When receiving the notification message ; other databases may create a reference to this created object. |
Access to the data
When the data is referenced and whatever the format in which the images have been received, we can send them :
| in the format in which they have been received without any loss of information | |
| in the DICOM format : the system then acts as a transcriber (i.e. : an image in the Interfile format can be sent in the DICOM format). |
This allows any DICOM client to connect to the database in order to have access to the information.
It also allows any modality to connect as a client to collect the format.
Printing services
This function is always available, it is an advanced tool to build up pages to be printed or filmed.
Operating Room
This is an optional feature which allows the surgeon to set up a simplified folder displayed with a minimum of interaction while the operation is taking place.
Demonstration folder
This is also an optional feature which allows to create a folder containing samples of images coming from various patients for training purposes.
Reporting
Multimedia reports are directly attached to the study. Both the report and the study will then be archived along together.
Workflow and Statistics
This module allows to query a database in order to filter access to patient (Workflow) and/or provide statistic information.
| The Server is based upon UNIX X11-MOTIF and uses ORACLE 7 as database engine. | |
| It is sized to handle hundreds of thousands of patients and even millions depending on the hardware capabilities. | |
| Complementary to this server, MDS provides UNIX and WINDOWS NT clients. | |
| The system provides digital and video acquisition (NTSC, PAL, etc.) |
