The universal DICOM 3 Teleradiology system
Technical Datasheet
| Features | Functional description | Data transmission | User interface |

The MDS Dx Radionet™ offers a unique Teleradiology management and processing system. Teleradiology is the process of sending radiological images from one point to another through digital, computer assisted transmission, typically over standard telephone lines or over a local area network (LAN). Images can be sent to another part of the hospital, or all around the world. It is optimized for DICOM 3.0 standard network.
| Universal system for image transmission, review, comparison, interpretation and reporting between all imaging modalities (Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, Radiology etc.). | |
| Remote interpretation : diagnosis center and share of information. | |
| Medical urgency : diagnosis assistance. | |
| Communication between radiology departments, emergency units and care units. | |
| Expert center : immediate access to specialists' skills. | |
| Extremely efficient ORACLE™ image data base management system which uses SQL query language, fully ACR/NEMA, DICOM 3 and HL7 compatible. | |
| Expandable and open systems architecture. |
Dx Radionet™ Teleradiology is a source of efficiency, quality and economy :
| Avoids useless transfers of patients. | |
| Reduces the use of radiological films. | |
| A productivity tool that is in keeping with the general pattern of reducing healthcare costs policy. |
Dx Radionet™ is connected to the network by Ethernet TCP/IP DICOM 3.0.
Images can be acquired in three ways :
| Digitizing of radiological films or paper documents. | |
| Video connection (PAL, NTSC) with frame grabber and protocol acquisition for still and dynamic images. | |
| Digitally, by connecting directly from a modality (MRI, Scanner, etc.) to a workstation over an Ethernet network (TCP/IP protocol) according to the files format (DICOM 3, ACRNEMA 1 and 2, INTERFILE, TIFF, etc.). |
Long term storage can be carried out either on DAT band, Optical Disk or on Jukebox (" cupboard " containing many optical disks) according to the amount of data that has to be stored.
Different modules of medical image processing exist which allow measurements in echography, cardiology, nuclear medicine, etc.
The transfer of data can be configured in time :
| The file can be sent every five minutes or every hour. | |
| Immediate transfer of an image or a file in case of emergency. | |
| Delayed transmission of files, i.e. night transmissions at a lower cost. | |
| Dialogue with the help of a Telecursor function. | |
| Access control, confidentiality management. |
The Dx Radionet™ user-friendly interface allows easy access to all data and programs. Applications are launched through menus and icons, and the display settings may be easily adjusted according to individual preferences. The interface provides commands such as :
| Interactive video LUT adjustment (color/black-white, contrast, brightness) | |
| Mosaic mode (multiple image display) | |
| Cineloop (speed adjustment, number of frames) | |
| Photo mode (full screen display) | |
| Image rotation and mirroring | |
| Statistics on images, ROI (region of interest) and measurements | |
| Image filtering | |
| Phase and amplitude measurement | |
| Tomographic reconstruction and 3D analysis / Display | |
| Magnifier | |
| Roaming (pan and scroll) |
In the active image window the user has directly access to other utilities as size adjustment (" drag and drop "), color scale, text annotation, copy, saving images under various formats (GIF, TIFF etc.), DICOM 3.0 information (" pop-up menu ").
Dx Radionet™ also includes a full package for report generation providing :
| Secretary terminal management software | |
| Voice recording included in the patient's file. | |
| Possibility to include pictures in the text. | |
| Word processing package inside Dx Radionet™. | |
| Key sentences for some modalities. |
TheDx image processing development environment is object-oriented and created especially for the needs of medical image processing.
This software is available both in an interactive mode under the UNIX shell, and in software library routines from C and C++ source code.
This language allows the user to create clinical protocols tailored for individual use.
