Functional Description

	Acquisition
	Images can be directly acquired from the sonograph if it has a digital output. Otherwise a frame grabber (parallax card) converts the conventional video images (still or dynamic images, black and white or color images) generated by the ultrasound system, from an analog to a digital format.
	Dx Quartz can also integrate images coming from the optical disk directly into the patient's database (Media transfer).
	Images can be acquired in various modes : 2D mode, Doppler and color Doppler, pulsed and continuous Doppler, TM mode.
	Track ball or hands-free acquisition with foot-pedal operated menu.
	Immediate accept/reject of acquired viewing angle.
	Rapid re-acquisition of previously acquired views.
	Synchronized acquisition on ECG

	Interpretation Dx Quartz™ provides the user with the tools necessary for interpreting the exam :
	Display all function : automatic display and organization of all the images on the screen
	Measurements
	Image annotations
	Saving of processed images as new images
	Full screen images available only on a simple click
	Reporting either using pre-established templates (Applixware) or using report generation
	Printing on film or paper printer of images or reports
	Exam file stored in the patient's file
	The database's structure conforms to the DICOM model (patient, study, series, image).

This database is centralized on a file server to which multiple users can have instantaneous access. Long term storage can be carried out either on Optical Disk or on Jukebox ( " cupboard " containing many optical disks)depending on the amount of data that has to be stored.

	Processing MDS provides different optional specific processing software :

TheDx image processing development environment is object-oriented and created especially for the needs of medical image processing.

New protocols are being developed. The system is fully upgradable to future processing.

Dx Quartz™ is fully compatible with Dx Multimodality™ offering a full network of connections to all imaging modalities, providing greater access to image data and extensive archive capacity through a powerful information system.

Technical Description

This software is available both in an interactive mode under the UNIX shell, and in software library routines from C and C++ source code.

This feature allows the user to create clinical protocols tailored for individual use.

Dx family is based on a state-of-the-art line of RISC processor workstations using the UNIX™ operating system and hardware such as TCP/IP, NFS, ORACLE™ data base manager, Xwindows, MOTIF™ graphical user interface, C and C++ programming languages, Ethernet network and others...

User Interface

The Dx Quartz™ user-friendly interface allows easy access to all data and programs. Applications are launched through menus and icons, and the display settings may be easily adjusted according to individual preferences. The interface provides commands such as :

Interactive video LUT adjustment (color/black-white, contrast, brightness) Mosaic mode (multiple image display) Cineloop (speed adjustment, number of frames) Photo mode (full screen display) Image rotation and mirroring Statistics on images, ROI (region of interest) and measurements and annotations Image Filtering Magnifier

In the active image window the user has direct access to other utilities including size adjustment (" drag and drop "), color scale, text annotation, copy, DICOM 3.0 information (" pop-up menu ").

Report Generation

Dx Quartz™ also includes a full package for report generation providing :

	Wall Motion Report using Applixware and is appended to the patient's desktop folder.
	Graphic representation of each stress echo view included in the report.
	Automatically generated results based upon segment grading.
	American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) scoring of stress echo result .
	Automatic report generation according to a list of possible choices of patient diagnosis selected by the user.Report Export in WORD or HTML formats

Localization

The MDS Dx Quartz™ user interface and user's guide are available in English and in French.
